Choir

from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, # 1157:

"Song and music fulfill their function as signs in a manner all the more significant when they are "more closely connected . . . with the liturgical action," according to three principal criteria: beauty expressive of prayer, the unanimous participation of the assembly at the designated moments, and the solemn character of the celebration. In this way they participate in the purpose of the liturgical words and actions: the glory of God and the sanctification of the faithful:

How I wept, deeply moved by your hymns, songs, and the voices that echoed through your Church! What emotion I experienced in them! Those sounds flowed into my ears, distilling the truth in my heart. A feeling of devotion surged within me, and tears streamed down my face -- tears that did me good. (St. Augustine, Confessions 9:6, 14)

The St Therese Choir enhances the celebration of the Eucharistic liturgy. There are 3 choir groups in which you can participate.

  • Adult Choir - under the direction of Mary Ann Crowley, this choir is for anyone who loves to sing. There is no audition necessary. The adult choir sings the 10:15 Mass on the first and third Sundays from September through May and all of the main parish liturgies and celebrations. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings from 7:30 - 9:30 pm, excluding summer months.

  • Contemporary Group - this ensemble sings he 5:00 Mass on the second and fourth Saturdays. They also sing the main school celebrations. Rehearsals are one hour before our Masses. Anyone enjoying a small group sound may join, as a singer or an instrumentalist.

  • Bereavement Choir - this group sings at all funerals. You do not need to be present at every funeral to join this group. Everyone is welcome.
